My Journey from Board Certified Clinical Pharmacist to Tea Curator

Hello, Tea Lovers!

I’m Dr. Yvonne, a board-certified clinical pharmacist with over two decades of experience in both hospital settings and benefit management. My journey began in the fast-paced corridors of clinical pharmacy, navigating the intricacies of cardiovascular care, infectious diseases, and internal medicine. Later, I transitioned into benefit management, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to ensure quality care for patients across the healthcare spectrum.

Yet, amidst the meticulous world of pharmaceuticals, I discovered a parallel passion: the transformative power of tea. This wasn’t just a hobby—it was a calling that merged my love for wellness with my heritage as a fourth-generation tea producer from Kenya.

Over the years, I’ve personally created every LEAFBERRI blend with intention—leveraging my clinical knowledge to craft teas that aren’t just flavorful, but also brimming with functional benefits. My rich background in pharmacology helps me understand the intricate effects of antioxidants and plant-based compounds, allowing me to create blends that support your wellness needs.

Transitioning from pills to plants, I’ve found a new way to serve others—one that honors my Kenyan roots and continues my lifelong commitment to wellness. Every sip of LEAFBERRI tea is a testament to the synergy between science and nature, and I’m thrilled to share this journey with you.

Stay tuned as we explore the beautiful intersection of tradition, health, and the magic of Kenyan tea. Whether you’re here for the benefits, the bold flavors, or simply the joy of a good brew, you have a place in the LEAFBERRI family.

Happy Sipping

My Story with Tea

My ancestral home is on the foothills of the Aberdare Mountains in Kenya, where tea farming has sustained farmers like my family for generations. Few people realize that Kenya is the world’s third-largest tea producer. Yet most of our tea is sold as a bulk commodity—used to blend and “bulk up” teas from other regions, because Kenyan tea is prized for its unique flavor and rich characteristics. The result? Our farmers rarely receive the recognition or fair value they deserve, and consumers seldom experience Kenyan tea in its pure, authentic form.

LEAFBERRI was created to change that story. By sourcing directly from small-scale farmers in the Aberdares, we bring you clean, hand-picked teas that highlight their natural quality and wellness benefits. My mission is to showcase Kenyan tea for what it truly is: distinctive, sustainable, and impactful—well beyond just a commodity.

At LEAFBERRI, every sip is more than tea—it’s a connection to heritage, wellness, and the farmers who make it possible.

The Kenyan Tea Story

Kenya’s tea journey began in 1903, when the first tea plant was introduced to Limuru — a cool, misty region in the highlands with rich volcanic soil and ideal altitude. From that single planting, tea spread across the Central Highlands and the Rift Valley, becoming one of Kenya’s most treasured crops and a vital part of community life.

What Makes Kenyan Tea Exceptional:

  • Organically Grown: Cultivated without pesticides or chemical sprays.
  • Volcanic Soils: Grown in mineral-rich volcanic soils of the central highlands and Rift Valley.
  • High Altitude Farming: Elevation boosts antioxidant content and enhances flavor.
  • Hand-Picked Leaves: Carefully harvested by hand to preserve leaf integrity and flavor.
  • Women-Led Workforce: About 75% of the tea pickers are women, many from smallholder farms.
  • Smallholder Contribution: Over 60% of Kenya’s tea is produced by small-scale farmers.
  • Economic Backbone: Tea is Kenya’s top foreign exchange earner—outpacing tourism, coffee, and horticulture.
